The Loaded Dog, 4th August 2006

I hope you had a good WE!!
MissesNice was playing at the Loaded Dog in Leytonstone, last Friday.
The 4-hour gig was a mixture of originals and covers. For the set list, I remember I took a photo of it, so check out the photos!! Thanks you to Penny, Jean, Colleen, Eliisa and all others I can't remember the names, sorry....
Special thanks to Pete, potential singer, who joined tham on stage to perform a few songs, all beautifully interpreted, and with such good energy!!! A real frontman... I'm sure we'll be in touch soon...

For the photos, I'll try to post them as soon as possible... Might take a while.... But the key will be "Dog9"!!!

For the rest of August, I'm afraid, the band and this site will be very quiet as Nico, Fred and I are going on holiday, no, not together...

The Meyrick arms, 23rd July 2006

Hello everyone,
MissesNice was playing in Clapham Junction this Sunday afternoon, at the Meyrick arms. A lot of bands were playing and because it was the first time the promoter was organising this event, the timing was a bit messed up.
The pub in itself is one the worst pub, I'm willing to bet on it, in England, even the whole UK. The beer is undrinkable and the bottles, from their fridge, are warmer than room temperature. At the door, a sign from the police asking for witnesses to come forward to testify about a serious assault that happened in that pub the week before...
The music was loud as the bands were clearly in the heavy hard stuff...
Anyway, at some point, must have been around 8PM, Misses Nice got on stage and played The Intro, Hello, Babe, The Boat, Melody.
the out of nowhere a fight just broke next to me, I just had the time to jump on stage, hide myself while Nico decided it was the perfect timing to play Misirlou, Pulp fiction theme song... which made a few peope laugh while watching the "fight"...
After that, they attempted to play the medley I but got stopped at Michael for breaking the original-only rule, so they finished their set by I got a gun, Purple and the Barman.
They received a good response from the audience as they probably have never seen such good musicians, even though Nico was playing with his Music man, the guitar he won exactly a year ago at the emergenza competition, since his ibanez is not operational for the moment...

Loaded Dogs 27th May and 30th June 2006

Hi guys,

Sorry for not updating you up with what's going on with Misses nice, but I've been busy... When I'll get a real contract as MNPA, I'll quit my job and will do this full time but unfortunately, I have to do other things to fill up my fridge....

But basically, the last two gigs were real fun. It's so good to see them again on stage after their very long break... Another reason why I, myself, took a break.. ;)

But They're back... I will update you on the gig list as soon as I know it...

Meanwhile, and hopefully... soon, I will upload the photos (Dog7 and 8)from last two gigs. As soon as national Express coach company send me my camera back, which "someone" forgot in the coach on our way to Beatles' town, last Saturday...!!!

The Loaded Dog, 8th of April 2006

So the next day was the Loaded Dog...

The stage has changed and has now doubled its size, which is really nice, it gives a whole new space and now we can see Fred behind his drumkit!

We also had our dinner there since they opened the kitchen and the chef is a good chef!!! I've never had such a huge burger...

Anyway, back to music, they played the Intro and all the nice songs they usually play,

We also had a special guest, the singer from the tribute band Guns 2 Roses, who sang a few songs with them...

After the first part, I was so knackered (4th night in a row!!!) I had to go home...

I know that Nico played a nice accoustic set before starting the secong part of the gig.

Rose and Crown, 7th of April 2006

I'm gonna try to relate the events as best as I can...

John was staying at home with Sam since they played the day before!!!
Came home, ordered a taxi, bla bla bla, as usual...

When we arrived, we realised that they were going to play upstairs and not downstairs... Which is pretty much useless since nobody goes upstairs, nobody even knows that there is a upstairs. So on a Friday night, people stayed downstairs and Sam and I were, at first, the only fans...

Some people came upstairs afterwards, probably because John (Fred' colleague) went downstairs and paid them to come... ;)

On the other hand, it was good opportunity for MN to play all the songs that they don't usually play, like my favorite "La mort au Bal"...

Al, our cameraman, played a few songs and Andrew Secret also joined the band for a couple of songs...

In summary a shit evening in a shit place, but what did we really expect from a pub in Walthamstow?

Nevermind, they got paid, I got my favorite song, We also had a special treat from Nico and his accoustic, and afterwards, we all got home and had a chat altogether... What more can I say?

Walkabout, Sound Check competition, Regional Final, 6th of April 2006

Hello everyone,

Last night, MN was playing at the Walkabout for the regional final of the Sound Check competition. Well, they didn't win this one, I wish I was kidding but that's the truth!!!
The first two bands were shit. The first band was a cover band!!! We thought that was good, that means they're out of the competition, I mean they're not gonna win a week of studio time to record a covers demo!!! Second band was shit as well and we thought, oh easy, they'll win... They played third.
They played the Intro, Hello, Babe, the Boat, Black Night, Melody and Purple. It was really fun, Nat, Ben and I were dancing like mad and screaming shouting, and everything....They played really well, a real show...
After that there was a fourth band, who actually was good and we were a bit scared that they would win!!!
Anyway, at around 11.30pm, they announced the winner and it was not Misses Nice, I didn't get the name but it was the second band, the shit one!!!! We were all so gutted, just took our stuff and ran for our tube!!!
So sorry for all the people we left without saying goodbye, we'll probably see u tonight and/or saturday!!
And thank you so much to David, Alex, Sam, Nat, Ben and his friend, Al and the manager from the lemon group, for coming and supporting MN, we all know that they should have won...

Troy Bar, Accoustic night with Nico, 5th April 2006

Hi,

Last night, Fred and I went to support Nico who was playing in Old Street in a very weird (=crappy) place, the Troy Bar.
There were 4 sets on the list. Nico was to play last.
We missed the first set, arrived for the second. It wasn't very good, I have to say.
Third set was a nice girl, who was singing her songs. It was very good, entertaining, great voice, nice composition, etc... Nico enjoyed very much ;)
Nico then took the stage for an outstanding performance, sang a few covers, like the Ace of spades, one of the Mama's and papa's and "lemon Tree" by Fool garden. The rest was original songs. After that set, the audience was screaming "Encore, encore", so He played a few more songs, obviously Beach Boys.... Which make a couple of girls dance... Even in that place!!!!

We of course ended up, the three of us, alone in the bar, drinking our beer, before being asked politely to leave in the next 5 minutes, which we did about 10 minutes later...

I will post the photos as soon as possible, the key will be Troy.

Tonight is the regional final of the Sound Check competition, in Shepherd's Bush. So tomorrow, you will know if they're going to the UK final and get the chance to compete for the first prize = 1 week in Tennessee!!!!!!!!

Rose and Crown, 31th March 2006

Hello everyone,

Last Friday, it was a jam session at the Rose and Crown, in Walthamstow, that MN was hosting with John (Fred's colleague). They opened the show by the Intro, of course... Followed by a lot of their originals, like Hello, Melody, The Boat, Babe, I got a gun...

After this nice RnR 1st part, John invited a few other musicians to come on stage. First we had Anthony, very delicate person who sang a couple of originals, along with some classics, with soundtrack as background.

Then Nico went back on stage, this time playing in a duet with Rob (our 1st Medley Winner). They performed a few songs, covers (Beach Boys, forever...) and originals (Nico's and Rob's). Definitely worth it if you get the chance to listen to them. I think Nico is playing on Wednesday at the Troy Bar (see gigs and Rob will probably join him on stage for their harmonising duet...

We then had an electronic guy, who for the next 1/2h or so, made some boum-tac, adding some wiou-wiou on top of that... with his computer and found that it was revolutionary... I reckon he thinks he's the only one on planet earth to do so...

After this mind blowing experiencce, we had Andrew Secret, who performed a 20-minute set a la Radiohead.

Al, our cameraman, also performed after that, a couple of songs, with Fred on the drums.

By 11.45PM, it was time to get back MN on stage who performed a couple more songs and closed the evening and said their goodbyes until next time, next Friday 7th April...

Don't forget also, Thursday 6th of April, Misses Nice will be playing for the regional final of the Sound Check Competition, at the Walkabout in Shepherd's Bush. Please, do make an effort to come and support them. if they win this tour and the national final on the 4th of May, they will win a week of recordings in a studio in Memphis... So get your ass down there.... please

Sugar Reef, 29th March 2006

Hi everyone,

Piccadilly circus... mmmhhh... Central London... Wouahhh, Hell no!!
Rewind....

Jake, the promoter of the Sugar Reef, gives us the number of the other band, so we can arrange with them who brings what!! Fred calls them but they're not gonna play, for whatever reason ...
Fred calls back Jake and says it's practically impossible to bring the drum kit ourselfs, since Fred is working in Luton until late, the drumkit is in East London and the bar is in Central London, meaning the taxi is going to be very expensive!!! He says, no problem, bring it and I will arrange something for you to go back (=I will pay for your taxi)...

7.30PM, I meet John at the venue and together we wait for the taxi to arrive with on board, Fred, who left work early, Nico who went to give a hand and (not only) the drumkit, (but also) the bass and the guitar amps...
We check the venue, the "stage" space, etc... Quick sound check... And there the evening began:
4 acts on the list: Jake, the promoter and a friend on accoustic guitar; a hip hop 3-piece group singing over a hip hop (=yo!) soundtrack; a female solo singer singing on a soundtrack and with a background guitar player (Phil).
Each act were allowed two songs (except MN who got 3), with a DJ "playing" in between acts. After the first round, eact act was coming back for a second set of two songs each again!!!
No comment about acts (Yo, Hu, ha ha...)

So when MN went to play, it was a bit different with banging heads... They played the intro "Talalalala", Hello, The Boat, Babe, Melody. Arrived the moment for the last song of the second set.. What are they going to play....Nico looks at Jake and asks if they can play a "small" Medley... Yeah sure...
You should have seen Jake's face, at each song's change, he was asking to stop because they were "too long". And I still don't know why it mattered since all other acts left, the only people left in the place were two MN friends and I and a couple who was talking to Jake and seemed to realy enjoyed the music... so What exactly was the point? The bar closes at 2AM!!! And it is 11.25!!!
Finally, Jake was really annoying so they stopped in the middle of it...
We quickly packed up everything to make sure we could get the last tube, what John and and Nico did, and left Fred (and I) to ask Jake to call a cab and/or to pay for it...
" Euh.. There were not enough people who paid at the door, and I have to pay other people, so I can't help you guys...."
Fred told him he was an arsehole and if he hadn't promised on the phone to pay for the return cab, they wouldn't have never played there in the first place!!!!!
So, Fred tries to find a cab, a people carrier, not too expensive since we already payed £40 to come... It took him more than 1/2hour to get one, a guy who said "no problem, I'll be there in 30minutes (other companies had said more than one hour wait!), and for £35"
More than an hour later, still no sign of that cab, Fred calls him back, he's lost in Tottenham Court Road!!! So we found another one, actually just parked outside the bar, who could do it for £40.
So there we go, packing the cab with all the stuff at 1.30AM and going back home to East London!!

Conclusion, £80 for 6 songs, that makes a MN song very expensive...To play...Isn't "making a living from music" the other way round?

When are we going to find a friend with a van, who will enjoy the music, know that his job is to drive and won't drink too much???

and/or

When are we winning the lottery, so we can buy a van?

Walkabout, Sound Check competition, 23rd March 2006

Hello everyone,

Misses Nice was playing at the Walkabout, the West London Aussie H.Q., in a competition called Sound Check!!!

We arrived there around 8PM and already it was pretty full, people eating, drinking, chatting,etc... It's a huge bar and the stage is really high, at least 2 metres above!!!

There were 4 bands on the list, MN was to play 3rd, perfect...

Quickly people were coming and invading the space and the dancing floor...
First band, I didn't catch any of the names but the band was fronted by a girl, great voice, great stuff; for once, it was really not boring to listen to the other bands!
Second band was as well really good, fronted by an energetic black guy, also great voice and the songs were well performed.

The audience was responsive, which is great, they were not only there to drink!!!

Third MN: the fans were all ready, screaming "Misses Nice, Misses Nice"... They played "The Intro", Hello, Melody, Black night, Purple, Babe.

Then, we waited for the "results"... Time to drink, chat happily and take photos of everyone...
It was actually quite late when they announced the results but we had to stay to "Know"...
And The Sound Check winner is..... Misses Nice...

What??? Wouahhhh.... Then you scream, you hug everyone, you congratulate the band, etc...
Plus, we were very happy since the choice was by the organisers and not by the audience (=Who's got friends in the room?), so they actually wn because they were the best!!! Even though they didn't play Vivaldi!!?!! That's really good...

On our way home, while waiting for the last Central line tube, Rob took his guitar and played a few songs. In the tube, Nico took it and playe a few Beach Boys ones, entertaining people in the carriage. For once, people were nice, singing with us, etc...

That was the end of a fantastic evening...

The Bell, 11th of March 2006

Hi again,

Yes, Misses Nice was playing in Elephant and Castle, in a pub called The bell. They've already played in that same pub, exactly 2 weeks ago, but I wasn't there that WE, so no review, nor photos...

Once again, the evening started by Fred calling a big cab to carry all the stuff, including the voice amps and me. As usual, he played successfully at that famous game, called Tetris...

We arrived at the pub, where we got a warm welcome by the people there and got a hand to unpack the cab.. Ouaaaah... our first roadie.. ;)

Started playing a bit after 9PM, had a a couple of break, but basically entertained all the people for a good 4 hours... There were a few locals, seemed very happy people enjoying the music... 2 birthdays celebrated as well... And a few of "our" people, a couple from Stratford and our very own Fan of the Month (Feb) Ben and his as important girlfriend Alicia...

Also, a couple of potential singers, and amongst them, Johnnie came on stage, having prepared something... and performed songs from Gun's and Roses, Metallica and the Doors.

Al was once again present and filmed all evening... He also surprised us all by taking the guitar and played a nice piece during one of the break.

The Thanks go to Ben, Alicia, Johnnie, to all the people WIMC, and the people from the pub obviously (very nice people btw, ...).

Rose and Crown, 10th March 2006

Hello everyone,

Yes, I know I haven't written anything for a long time but here you go, this WE, Misses Nice was playing on Friday in Walthamstow at the Rose and Crown. This pub we used to go 2 years ago for its jam session until they decided to ban MN from playing there (other musicians, gutted, couldn't face to go after them!!!.. True story...).
They played on the 24th of February in that same venue but as I wasn't there, I didn't write anything about it...
So last time, they played upstairs, this time, they played downstairs, in the actual pub.
Quite a few people... Friday night...

Our evening began at around 7PM, by packing up a cab with all the stuff and unpacking when arrived at the pub. Of course, we had already set up the drum kit by the time Nico and John showed up...
They started playing at around 9PM and played for about 3hours with a break, or two, can't remember...
On the set list, were a mix of covers (BB, Hendrix, Medleys, etc...) and originals (Hello, Melody, The Barman, etc...).
The highlight of the evening was definitely Iain, our 3000th visitor and potential singer, who took the stage and performed a couple of songs. (My opinion... I thought he was very convincing...)
Someone else, also, took the stage, at some point but I can't remember which song it was, and have no idea who's that guy!!!

So, for the evening, all thanks go to John for booking them and Iain for being an excellent guest.

They will play again in that venue on the 7th of April! So check out the gig list, they've got quite a few gigs coming up...

The Loaded Dog, 18th February 2006

Hi,

Misses Nice was playing at the Loaded Dog last Saturday 18th of February 2006. Situated in Leytonstone, that pub is the biggest live music venue in East London. Misses Nice has been playing a few times there, notably for New Year's eve where they played for more than 5 hours.
Well, last Saturday was a shorter night, they only played 3 hours and a half ;)
They played a huge variety of Rock covers from the 60's to the 80's, from Beatles, Beach boys to Metallica, Michael Jackson, ... They also played their famous tribute to Vivaldi and their unmissable three Medleys.
Each of the members had their solos time but it's definitely Fred who won the palm for the weirdest and 'unseen ever before' solo. You can have an idea of what happened by visiting the album Dog5.

They finished the night by playing a very long version of a Maroon 5 song with John on drums and Fred on bass...
Nico then closed the stage by the first song he ever wrote "Waiting for the rain".
That was a fantastic night, Russel, all his friends and I danced all night... That was really fun.
So thanks to him for coming, bringing his friends along to support the band, we really do appreciate.
And all thanks to Dave for booking them once again.
Also, congratulations to Rob (above with MN) who's the 1st person to win the Medley challenge...

Cuckoo's Nest, 17th February 2006

Hello,

Misses Nice was playing at the One fly over & the Cuckoo's nest venue in Notting Hill last Friday 17th of February 2006.
The evening began by John joining us at Tavistock Road to help carry his bass amp, bass head and part of the drum kit. The journey was quite long from Stratford to Ladbroke grove, but in quite good spirit. A feeling that didn't last long when we saw that the other bands also brought their bass amp!!!!!! We were quite gutted!!!
3 bands on the list + an accoustic set. The two other bands were Go55 (I believe that was the 1st band name!) and Gear were very energetic bands screaming and jumping around... That might have been the effect of that movie (Flesh Gordon, yes with a "e") being screened while they were playing...

Misses Nice took the stage after the 1st band and played The Intro Talalalala, Hello, Babe.
John then had a problem with one of his string and while he was fixing it, Fred and Nico played We will Rock You.
They then played The Boat, Melody and Purple. The crowd started to shout "Encore, encore" so they finished the set by the Medley J.Hendrix-Metallica.
A few people had turned up in that non smoking venue, so a big Thank you to them, they know who they are... Also the cameraman from the Southside bar filmed again all night...
We stayed until the end and took a cab home since we really didn't want to carry all the stuff by tube anymore...

Southside Bar, 30th of January 2006

Hi everyone,

Misses Nice was playing again at the Southside Bar, Central London, last night. Free entrance it was and two bands on, Misses Nice and another one (the guys who played on Wednesday as well...).

For this special last minute gig, the promoter and sound engineer offered us to pay for the taxi for Fred's huge drumkit, nice guy... Nice also for Nat who for once could relax all night and not have to worry about packing it up in her car...

Unfortunately, on a Monday and without advertisement, the place was pretty empty, not a lot of people turned up except for Ben and his girlfriend and two other guys, to whom Nico had replied to their advert about filming a gig for a school project!!!!

The other band managed to bring a few more people, which was nice...

They played about an hour during which we were treated with (not in the right order) the Intro "Talalalala" (apparently this is the official name!), Hello, The Boat, Melody, Babe, the Barman, Stone Cold Crazy, Medley J.Hendrix-Metallica and the Medley II.

This was a nice evening, everybody enjoyed their time, the music and the excentricities like Fred's solo...

Southside Bar, 25th january 2006

Hi guys,

Misses Nice was playing in a bar in central London last night, the Southside bar; in a quite small room downstairs.
The party began at around 2 o'clock in the afternoon with Nat and Nico going to Fred's place to get the drum kit... Very early because they wanted to avoid the rush hour...
Sound check: an accoustic guy, a small band guitar-keyboard-violin and a duo guitar-djembe, so very quiet people... Hmmm, Misses Nice was playing last since they were going to be the noisiest...
We didn't know what to expect of the sound; the room was so small!

Anyway, the gig started; it was fun to meet Iain, our MN VIP pack winner (for being the 3000th person to visit this website). Because other bands were quiet, we could easily chat with people who came to see the band, namely Iain, Kacey and Alex, plus all Nat's friends.
Unfortunately, they were running a bit late and Misses Nice was on stage at only 11PM.

But from the first note, everybody in the venue knew that it was going to be a bit noisier but better than an accoustic set (nobody left ;) !!! A lot of people who had nothing to do with us really enjoyed the music, they were dancing, banging their head, jumping, etc...

They played the intro "Talalalala" (sorry it hasn't got a name yet), Hello, Babe, The Boat, Melody, the Medley I and Purple. A very good set list, very efficient!
Since I only installed the Medley challenge yesterday, nobody wasn't aware of the pack to win, but I'm sure next time, everybody will try :)

So thanks very much to all the people who came down, Alex, Kacey, Iain and his friend Guy, all Nat's friends.

Two special thanks today, one for John because I know he's had a very difficult week and he came down to London 3 times this week (plus a 4th time 2mrw!!!), very motivated guy and even though he's really knackered, he still gonna be the keenest Bass player on stage EVER!!!
The second one is for Nat who once again had to pack her Ka with the drumkit, drive into Central London, etc....

I was a bit too tired this morning to put on a CD all the photos I took last night, but very soon, I'll upload them and the key will be SSBar!!!

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone had a good WE. We did! Misses Nice was playing in a very nice but quite small bar, the Mau Mau, off Portobello Road, this Saturday 21st of January 2006 where they showed to the very posh West London what's called Rock n' Roll!!! And it went very very well...

Our evening began by packing up Nat's Ford Ka with the whole drum kit. I have to say, we would never have imagined putting everything in that cute little car... At around 6PM, Nat and Fred as the co-pilot, went on the road, on a journey from stratford to Notting Hill; while Nico, John, Russel (Nat's bro) and Heather (Russel's girlfriend) and I took the tube.
Got to Ladbroke Grove a bit after 7PM, spotted Nat and Fred, who seemed a bit lost... It's funny how we got there exactly at the same time...

First look inside the Mau Mau.. mmhh, looks a bit small but it's allright.. There is not a lot of space on stage for Fred's drum but we still managed to set it up, despite the promoter asking for a smaller drum kit... For Nico and John, no amps! Everything through the PA!!!
But Actually the sound was generally not too bad inside the bar, Fred, on the other hand, couldn't hear a thing... Which is really awful...

They had a deal with the promoter, who didn't seem very happy: 40minutes first set and if they're good, they are allowed to play a second set...

During that first set, they played To look down-Foxy lady-Black Door Woman-melody-California girls-The Boat-Babe-the Medley I and Stone Cold crazy.

After that, the promoter loved them, they could play whatever they wanted so they started a second set with Fire-Hello-Medley II- I got a gun-Surfin'USA-Backin USSR-Tush-Little Wing and finished by Louie Louie as usual...

A lot of people turned up in that trendy bar: Russel, heather, his friend Aaron and a few other friends, Ben, Sandra and Steve, Nat and I (obviously...)

So thanks very much to everyone for their support and especially Nat who had to drive again with all the stuff.
And I hate night buses when they're packed!!!

Standard Music Venue 14th January 06

Hello everyone,

Misses Nice was playing at the Standard Music Venue (Walthamstow) this Saturday 14th of January.
The festivities began in the afternoon by a rehearsal at Tavistock road.
At around 5.30PM, Nat's Ford Ka was packed with a guitar amp, a bass amp head, a snare drum, a bag of symbals and 2 rucksacks, + Nat, Fred, Nico, John and I!!!!
We arrived there without any problem thanks to Fred's copilot skills...

4 bands were on the agenda, Sound check was quite painful... We managed to escape for a while, went to the pub nextdoor,...

First a guy playing accoustic: we,actually, arrived when he was finishing his set...
Then a band whose name was unaudible, they might want to change it... Even John didn't understand...

Misses Nice then took the stage and at the first note, we knew that we were on a different planet. I can't recall the exact list even though they didn't play very long. There was an Intro, Hello, Babe, Black Door Woman, Melody, Purple, and the mini medley J.Hendrix/Metallica.

Ben, Alicia, Matt, Nat and I really enjoyed our night, the sound was very good, the sound engineer did a really good job.
The guys also thought that it was one of the best gig for them thanks to the perfect sound on stage...

So thanks go to Andy for booking them, the sound engineer for the great job, Ben, Alicia and Matt for supporting the band and Nathalie for driving and the animated discussion back home...

Yes, Misses Nice was playing at the Loaded Dog last Saturday 31st of December for New Year's Eve. An chnace for everyone to listen to good music at NYE, for a change....

We, Fred and I, began the night at around 5PM by moving all the equipment and setting everything up on stage. Let's say that Nico and John are lucky they have Fred to do that job... Next time Fred will play in a band, he will be a flutist!!!
We then headed to Nico's place where Thierry, our French cook, cooked our last 2005 meal...
Unfortunately, the time running fast, we had to leave quickly and went back to the Loaded Dog where the festivities were about to begin...

They started playing at around 10PM, I don't remember the songs in exact order but after a few, Nico broke a string!!!!!! So they got a first 10minutes break...

They then played non stop until a quarter to midnight, before the usual 10...9...8...7...

Soon after midnight, they went back on stage to play a very punk version of the traditional NYE song!
They played a few sets, during one of which Nico broke another string...
I can't tell you all they played, the set list was veeeeeeeerrrrrry long... Since they played from 10PM till around 4.30AM...

The highlights of the night were our last supper, the kiss at midnight, the balloons fights and Fred drum's solo, which by the way, if you missed it, was incredible!!!!!!!

Thanks to all the people who shared this 1st of January with us.
Special thanks go to Stu for booking them, Dave for loving them, Adam for serving them and Cindra for.... serving me and all of them for their kindness, and OK.. I'm gonna stop that bullshit...

Hi Everyone,

Misses Nice was playing at our favorite local pub in Leytonstone, the Loaded Dog.
They played a good 4hours set in wich they played The Intro, Texas Blues, Sweet Emotion, the Boat, Back in USSR followed by ZZ Top Tush, their 3 Medleys, Little Wing, Vivaldi, Purple Haze followed by For Whom The Bell Tolls (FWTBT), California girls and Surfin'USA.
They also played a set of about 30minutes with potential singer Shaun. He sang Melody, Babe, Black Night and Smoke on the Water, followed by an accoustic set with Nico.

They also played Road House Blues in which Fred on Bass and John was on Drums, followed by a shit impro (says Fred) with Fred on Guitar and Nico on Drums!!!

They finished the night by the furture hit "Purple" and Louie Louie because They got to go...

We thank Nat, Thierry, Dave, Adam, Stu and Shaun for their support and the famous Eddie Team!!!

Nico in Notting Hill 4th dec 2005

Nico was playing in solo at a venue in Notting Hill last Sunday in a accoustic session where 4 sets were on for the evening.
Nico was the first on stage very early in the evening.

He played 5 songs, beginning by the Ace of Spades, just to get people in the mood :), followed by his original songs Waiting for the rain, Tonight is the night and his latest one, for which I don't know the name. He also played one of the hits from the Mamas and the Papas.

Once again, thank you to all the people who travelled to see him, namely Nat and her two friends, Fred, Ben and his girlfriend and 2 more friends of Nico.
And again thanks to Fred for relating the events...

Next gig is on the 16th of December at the Loaded Dog, a good rehearsal for the Big Day, new Year's eve...

MissesNice was playing at the Loaded Dog in Leytonstone, this past Friday, as a support band for the Red Star Rebels, whose singer Jonny is an acquaintance of Nico and Fred.

John, Fred and Nico took first the stage for an hour and treated the RSR fans with some gems like the instrumental La Montee and The Intro, followed by the massive hits Purple, Hello, Melody and Drunk, you can listen to the 4 of them on the music page. They also played The Barman and the famous Medley I which definitely helped get people in the mood for the next band, the RSR... There was not a lot of people but then it wasn't a MN gig either, so 'can't complain' as John would say...

By 11PM, the RSR had taken the stage and played their set composed of original material. Their friendly attitude and excentric style sent good vibes in the venue. You can listen to their songs or see their gig list on their website. As you will see, they've got the Rn'R looks.

Thanks to Sam who travelled from so far away... with John... Thanks to Stu for giving the opportunity to play in that venue, Thanks to Dave for everything again, he knows what... Thanks to Adam and Julia for... being there... lol

Latino's Clash of the Bands

Hello everybody,

Last night, Misses Nice was playing in a new contest for unsigned bands called Clash of the Bands.
There were two other bands on the list: Black Flight and Big Dance.
The venue called Latino's was situated in Croydon.
Nat drove us from Stratford to there, Fred as a co-pilot and me at the back with the guitar, the bass, the symballs next to me and the guitar amp and the snare drum in the boot (Yes: all that in a Ford Ka), it took us about an hour to go there and 'discover' the place where they were going to play!!! A good half an hour later arrived John and Nico who, as a Ka is big but, we thought, not big enough for two more guys, had to take the tube, the train and the tram to go there!!!!
The first band, Black Flight from Croydon, took the stage for a sound check. Too long later and half an hour late, the organiser took the mic and welcomed everyone, said a few words, and said as there is not enough people, the vote won't take place and that the three bands were going to be asked to come back at later dates when, hopefully, more people would have heard of the contest and would turn up...
This said, we had John and his two friends (sorry guys, I don't recall your names), Paul and Sophie, Nat and I, who were there for Misses Nice!!!!!! It's not our fault if the other bands didn't bring ANY people!!!!
OK, so first band: Black Flight. Euhhhhhh, welll..... Second band: Big Dance: Punk Rock, Reggae style, quite entertaining actually!!!
Finally Misses Nice came up on stage. We all stood up, went to the dance floor (which was pretty empty all night, except the fly I saw around 9 o'clock!) and supported our favorite band!
I don't recall the exact order of the set list but Basically we were treated with the usual Intro, Hello, a tribute to Queen with Stone Cold Crazy, the Boat, Babe, I got a gun, Medley I, the Barman, Melody and Purple.

And actually, compared to the 2 previous hours where everyone was just waiting for the end (especially the barmaid), people were dancing, a group of 4 or 5 people, joined us on the dance floor and really enjoyed the music. I even saw some smiles on faces of some of the musicians from Black Flight!!!
They played about 45minutes but it looked like 3minutes 13sec!!!

We then embarked on our journey home.... Where, believe or not, it is actually possible to fill a Ka with 5 people,a guitar, a bass, a guitar amp, a bag of symballs and a big ruck bag!!!!!!
We got a bit lost but Nat quickly found a Plan B to go back to Stratford...
So thanks to everyone, John, Paul, Sophie, and especially Nat and her Ford Ka!!!!

Hello everyone,

MissesNice was playing at the Loaded Dog this past Friday night. We were treated again with 70's Classic Rock Music + a lot of original material including Hello, Babe, The Boogie, the Boat, I got a gun, etc....
Also we had some very special guests:
First of all, we had Sean, who went on stage and sang his heart out and treating us with a Freddy Mercury-like Vocal performance. I think he was very much appreciated by the audience.
Next, we had Brian Barry, who, being a fan of the Beach Boys, could not resist to jump on stage to sing BB songs with the band. Brian and the MissesNice!!!!! lol
And finally, we had that guy, I have no idea who's coming from but took Nico's guitar during a break and played some good stuff.
Those 3 guys along with the medleys and the Vivaldi tribute were definitely the highlights of the night.
Then at the end of the gig, Nico played alone (not as loud!!!) a few songs, which closed the show
I would like to thank Jacquie and Brian for coming (they couldn't believe when people were head banging on BB songs!!!!), I loved being with you guys!!!!
Also all thanks to Natalie and Russel for taking photos, that I hope I'll be able to post soon.
Thanks to Russel again to bring along his friends and dance on the dance floor all night!!!!
Thanks to Stu, Julia and everyone at the Loaded Dog for their letting them play in their venue.

Student Union Canterbury 25th Oct

Hi,

Who would have thought that in the world there are student unions, extremely well organised, with their own building, with sofas everywhere, a real bar serving everything, with bouncers in suits, and with at least 10 toilets for girls, big mirrors, etc..and... where parties end up at 11PM!!!!!!!!!!! Is it a perfect world for students or the saddest thing for them to experience?
It is true that pre-parties until 11PM and nights out till the sun comes up, where music is surrounding you as well as beers and..., no restrictions whatsoever except your own mind reminding you that you have a day full of lectures a few hours later..., is not the best system to do what you actually are supposed to do at university, but hey... You choose...

Until then, MissesNice was entertaining our very nice without-whom-we-wouldn't-be-there fans and a few other students who actually like a glimpse of rock n' roll, but hey...not too much, ...
They played 1 hour during which I saw uninterested people beginning to smile and bang their hand more and more along with the music. What they heard? Intro-Hello-Purple Haze-For Whom the bell tolls-Babe-Melody-Purple-MedleyI-Vivaldi tribute-The Barman and Drunk. I would like to thanks all the people who are always there supporting the band, singing the songs, etc... And I won't forget Gareth for the drum kit!

They then left the stage, having prepared a hot audience for the headlining band, sorry I don't recall their name, who claimed that the audience was the smallest one they've been playing in front of for a long time!!! They were good musicians, sounded very new fashion rock (I know what I mean...) But they stopped after 1/2hour. We still don't know if that's because they didn't like the people around or because they just had no other material left to play??? We'll never know but whatch out their forthcoming single, as they said!!!

I'm waiting for John's reviews from last night and Saturday but apparently, IT-WAS-REALLY-GOOD, Nat said...
Also pictures from Saturday still coming... and a few from Canterbury but very few since the camera's batteries were dead!! Sorry...

Hi everyone,

As I was not there on Saturday, I can't comment on last Saturday performance. I'm still waiting for someone to do it but people don't seem to be fighting over the right to write in this blog.
So all I can say is that rumours say it was brilliant as usual... They play their set + a new song called I got a gun, which I'm sure convinced more than one person...

Hello everybody,

Misses Nice was playing at the Loaded Dog in Leytonstone, last Friday. A truly fun and amazing night. They played from 10PM till 2AM in this very nice pub from East London. I can't possibly remember everything they played but they definitely played Back Door Man, You really got me, Tie Your Mother down, Foxy lady, California girls, Stone cold crazy, etc... And in the MN repertoire: Purple, Melody, Hello, the Boat, Babe, Boogie, Pollux, etc... And of course their 3 Medleys!!!
A very cool audience as well, thank you everybody for coming and supporting them.
All thanks to Stu who let them play in his venue and for giving new dates.

Music-Center Concert

Hello everyone,

Back to London after an excellent WE spent in Belgium where MissesNice was playing for the grand opening of Music Center, a school of music created by Fred's sister.

They played a bit more than 1 hour. Were included in their set, some original material like Hello, Melody, Purple, Babe and the Vivaldi tribute. Also a lot of covers ranging from Metallica to Jimmy Hendrix, Motorhead. They entertained their "international" audience by a Medley (the 1st for the fans) where Nico broke a string in the middle of it. No panick, 5min break and Hop, back on stage for more Rock....

Jennifer Mc Cray took the stage after them. She's an american born singer-songwriter who's on top in the charts in Belgium. She's a very talented person and very friendly too. She sang a lot of her songs (which by living in London, we didn't know a lot about) But her hit song "In your head" definitely stays in your head.... She also covered a song from Anouk and from No doubt which were highly appreciated amongst the Londoners.

It was a really good night. I hope John celebrated his birthday as he was hoping to. I think he did... I would like to thank Steve, Natalie and Thierry for coming from London to see them. Jean-Marie from Luxembourg, friends and family from different parts of the country.

Hello everyone,

As you know MissesNice has been playing at the King Willy once again, in Canterbury. They were playing there for the Freshers first day at University.
We drove from London, all thanks to Natalie and the incredible space capacity of her Ford Ka, a bit tired from our Beach Boys WE but generally in a very good mood.
They played all their hit songs, including Melody, Hello, Purple, Drunk, Babe, Vivaldi tribute, The Barman, Boogie, as well a long list of covers, from Metallica to Queen, including their 3 medleys and a 20 minutes tribute to Jimmy Hendrix for the anniversary of his death.
Andy Mack took the stage during one of their break before MN finished their set by Louie Louie.... We've got to go....
I would like to thank all John's friends who again didn't fail to show up and show their support, the King willy and a big thank you to Natalie for driving us for more than 5hours this WE (from East to West London to Canterbury to back to East London) and to Ford ;)

As you know, MN has been playing at the King Willy once again in Canterbury last WE. As it is Holidays, not a lot of people turned up but those who did didn't regret it (I guess, they're always smiling on the pictures!!!). They were treated with a few new songs. Thank God they finally played "La mort au bal", it's a song in French absolutely amazing on either lyrics or music point of view, a chef d'oeuvre!!!!
We would like to thank all the people who came to see the gig and bought the first ever MN DVD. I hope you enjoyed it, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Results of the UK final at the Astoria

Hell(o) everyone,
I guess you already know what I'm gonna write. It is a big disappointment for us all! And we can't stop thinking "Why the hell people didn't move their ass to the Astoria on Sunday?"
As the two first rounds, the votes were depending on the number of tickets we sold, the audience coming for us, etc.. Plus the fact that MN was playing at 6PM. Overall, we had no chance.
But we were there, still hopefull that the organisation would be worth it, that as they promised, important people in the music business would be there...
Meeting was set at 12.00PM. We soon found out that even the technicians chose that time to begin to set up lights, equipment, drum kit, etc... A chance to have a sound check was getting null!!
I'll skip the details for the beginning of the concert and other bands.
Our fans begin to arrive by 4PM. It was nice to see familiar faces, especially John's mum, Fred's family (Dad, sister and brother), Nico's mum and Francoise, Francois (former Belgian MN bass player), Karim (one of Nico's best friend), Olivier and Sophie (Nico's friend from Paris), Rico and friend (Our favourite Barman), Jim, Paul and John (from the Brian Wilson fans), and all our friends from the Canterbury university (I can't start to name them all...), Xi and Christian (from my work), Nico's students, etc... We had a good audience, very motivated, singing, dancing, clapping their hands, etc...Even sober!! The last bands had screaming people but only because they were drunk!!!
5.50PM: Their turn... They begin with the usual intro, then Hello, Babe, Vivaldi, Melody and finished by the Barman + very meta outro!
From Hello, I was beginning to regret they didn't have a sound check! We couldn't hear Nico's voice, John was so loud!! I went to see that F*** B*** of sound engineer. At first she was panicking, trying all sort of things, causing many feedbacks in our poor ears... Then I told her, we couldn't hear Nico and she just replied "Me neither..." doing nothing!!!! At least she adjusted everything for Babe but Hello had been F***!!!
Came Vivaldi... A bit of stress, a few missing notes, but nothing wrong. Everyone was again extremely proud to be part of it just to listen to them playing this classical piece. Perfect. Melody, the next big hit (for the 6th year...) was also perfect.
The votes were a scam as usual!! They didn't count everything, I saw none of them counting my hand, they seemed to have counted until the middle!!!
Then, we waited, we waited until 1AM having to bear the other bands!!! The results were announced and as we expected MissesNice was even not given a chance to be judged by the "specialists" because we didn't sold enough tickets!!!!
But at least they recognised the talent and gave the "BEST UK GUITAR PLAYER AWARD" to Nico!!! From 800 bands, more than a 1000 guitar players, Nico is sacred the BEST!!!
So thank you Emergenza for not being stupid 100%! You've realised that biggest audience means money, not talent!
Thank you a 1000times to all the people who came from all over UK, from Belgium and Paris, and F*** u all others who just had to take a tube and didn't bother to do it! You just missed your chance to earn a free back stage when Tickets for MissesNice will be at £60 and you'll have to queue hours, maybe days to hope getting 1...

Sunday will be an historic date in MissesNice history: They will be playing for the first time in their career at the Mean Fiddler-Astoria2. VERY IMPORTANT, U DONT WANT TO MISS THAT!!!

On stage between 4.30 and 6.30PM (although I reckon they will be on at 5.50PM), ticket is £9!!!!

Nico, don't forget it on the 24th...
For the story... Everybody knows that Nico is a big fan of the Beach Boys and its genius former leader Brian Wilson. Nico became the "Entertainer" for all the BB/BW fans playing and singing about 60 of the BB/BW hits at each of the get together or parties after concert. On the 28th of June, Nico and the fans were travelling from Liverpool to Dublin to follow their idole on tour. They realised soon that they were going to take the plane with the legendary Brian Wilson... During their journey, Brian took Nico's hat from his head and put it on his and posed for a couple of pictures. Nico is still in shock...

MissesNice was playing in the semi-finals of the international Emergenza rock competition last Saturday 28th of May.
The 100 tickets got acquirers. Even though not everybody turned up, a few people completely unexpected showed up. We were all very happy to see all familiar faces.
Once again, Canterbury was in London, the coach was driving a 30-people wild and crazy audience.
A special thanks to Vicky who postponed her birthday for us. Happy Birthday girl!!!
Let's not forget Poundland that make us glow all night....
Although a delay of about an hour, we were all ready, parading with the banner, screaming MissesNice while waiting for Nico, John and Fred to come up on stage.
The presenter finally introduced the band, their influences, then each member for whom the audience was responding by huge waves of scream, all just before the show even began.
Their setlist was prepared, they played "the Intro", Hello, the Boat, Babe before blowing every musician face up with "the 4 seasons of Vivaldi". Followed by the well known "Melody" and finishing this 1/2h of craziness by the heavy sound of "Drunk".
Everyone knew after this that there was no way they couldn't go through to the final. The audience had been crazy, wild and mad, the music was perfect, etc... But still doubts were there!
After the 7 bands performed, we had a 10-min gap during which the organisers were deciding who was going through.
Then the moment of truth arrived, the Canterbury coach was already on its way back to Canterbury, a lot of people had left earlier trying to catch the last train, only a few of us were still there.
The presenter came up on stage and announced the 1st band winning : renegade playboys. They were the 1st band playing that evening and no one saw them apart from their people, so don't know if it's any good although I read that they played with the Darkness last year!!!
The tension was high, she then announced the second band going through.... Last second of joy, hope??? She then pronounced the Magic words "MissesNice" Oh my god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nico started jumping everywhere, Fred was screaming, lying on the floor,... Fred then called John, who was still on the bus and announced the big news, all Fred heard after that were screams of joy....
MissesNice is going to the ASTORIA!!!!!!

Hello everyone,

The second part of the review is about the jam session MissesNice
hosted at the Hat Factory in Luton. Just a quick word to say that they
played Foxy lady, Babe, Hello, Melody, Purple, The Boat and the Medley
III. Yes a bunch of pretty good songs and we were not there, even me!!!

OK back to more serious stuff

Tomorrow is the big Day, SEMI-FINALS of the EMERGENZA competition. If
you still don't know about it, go to the gig section. If you don't know
where it is, go to the gig section, then "fox venue", etc....

MissesNice was playing this Saturday in Canterbury at the King Willy. The night began very quietly with a Jazzy introduction, followed by Back Door men (Doors), Nothing I will remember (MN), Jolie Rose (MN). They then played Little Wing (J.Hendrix), To look Down (MN), Foxy lady (J.Hendrix), Red House (J.Hendrix). The mood changed, the pub was full by the time they played Babe (MN), The Boat (MN), California Girls (Beach Boys), Surfin'USA (B.B.), Melody, Pink Panther, You really got me (Kinks), Hello (MN), Misirlou (Pulp fiction's theme), Double Talking Jive (Guns n' Roses), Happy Birthday to Sasha, Tapping Solo Pollux and finished the first part by the Medley II. They then took a 15-minute break before the second part in which they played Immigrant Song (Led Zep.), Fire (J.H.), the Boogie (MN), Purple Haze (J.H.)-For whom the bell tolls (Metallica). They went on with the Medley III followed by a solo on the guitar by Nico. After this, they played the 4 seasons by Vivaldi. Proper Rock n' roll was then back with the Chuck Berry 1956's classic Johnny B.Good and Blues Suede shoes covered by Elvis Presley. John then took the guitar to play two of his songs: Tuesday and Mental. After 3 hours of good music like that, they finished the night by playing the Medley I, the Barman (MN) and Louie Louie because "we had to go"....
A special Big Thank you to Stu for all the material, to Gareth for the tickets sale, to The King Willy for the drinks, etc... And all the people who come each and every time to support us, we really appreciate. (Buy ticket!!)

Hello everyone,

First of all, I would like to thank all the people who check this site
regularly, it feels kind of worth it! As you can see, This blog moves,
changes very often. You also have the possibility to say what you want
to say about the band, music, etc... (careful...I still have the right
to delete what I don't like :) ). So don't hesitate to participate in
the forum (easy, free, no log in) and put comments to each of the posts
if you want to (easy, free but need a log in).

More seriously, MissesNice will be playing in Canterbury this Saturday
21st of May at the King Willy. Check the link MissesNice Gig for more
information.
Here below is a post where I reviewed their last gig there, with all
the songs they played, to give you an idea of what they like, what they
play, who are their favorite bands, what are their influences, etc...

Also, Wednesday 25th May, they will be hosting a jam session at the Hat
Factory in Luton. you'll have the opportunity to see them for free, to
appreciate the talent Fred has got as a presenter ;), to join them on
stage for a jam, to play your own piece of music with(out) Fred, Nico
and/or John, all that in a smoke-free bar :). For more information,

Last but not least: the EMERGENZA SEMI-FINALs on Saturday 28th of May

Canterbury (£15 coach+beers+ticket+fluorescent wrists), see John to buy

This Sunday 15th of May, One of the first member of Misses Nice,
Francois, the former bass player, got married to Maria.
We're wishing them happiness and succes.
Fred would have said "Mais pourquoi t'as fait ca!!!" (="What did you have to do that?"), Nico: "T'es
content, hein, maintenant,..." (="Happy now?") and John, probably "Good luck" !!
Hope we'll see u very soon, all happy etc...

Canterbury WE

Hello..... It's a sunny day.... Well, not quite but it Was this WE in
Canterbury.
MissesNice played at the King Willy where the usual suspects and new
(hopefully...undoubtedly...) fans turned up to listen to 3 hours of
good old rock n' roll as well as original material (considered already
legends amongst our Canterbury audience).
But before MissesNice got on stage, we had a very special guest band
with John on drums and Stu on guitar. Thank you to both of them for
warming up the audience for us ;) and congratulations to Stu for his
Sunday performance (which I'm afraid to say we deleted the proof by
mistake-Sorry!!!) (PS: Did you get your peanuts?).
Nico then played his nice little piece in tapping called Pollux.
Misses Nice then took the stage beginning their slot by Back Door Men
(Doors), introducing the bluesy MN Texas Blues. Followed by Foxy lady
(J.Hendrix), To look down (MN), Tie your Mother down (Queen), The Boat
(MN), Misirlou (Pulp fiction theme), Double talking Jive (Guns N'
Roses), Melody (MN), California girls (Beach Boys), Immigrant song (Led
Zep), La montee (MN), Medley 2, Hello (MN), Surfin'USA (BB), Blues
Suede shoes (E.Presley), The Jack (ACDC), Sweet emotions (Aerosmith).
They then took a well deserved break before the second slot, in which
they played Mr Nice Guy (A.Cooper), Babe (MN), Medley 3, The Barman
(MN), Purple Haze (JH)+ For Whom the bell tolls (Metallica), To hate
(MN), The Boogie (MN), Fuel (Metallica), Drunk (MN), Purple (MN).
Finished by "We've got to go" Louie Louie. Nico then performed solo the
first song he ever wrote "Waiting for the rain".
It was a very nice WE, we'll be back on the 21st May, a good
preparation for the big day (28th May, Emergenza competition) (Don't
forget to buy your ticket ;) )

Hello everyone,

Got a message from Emergenza, so I thought I would share it with you...

On the 28th of May, MissesNice will play in the semi-finale with 7
other bands. Only the first two bands will progress to the UK finale. Check MissesNice gigs then click on the link Emergenza to access to the event's website.
Their statistics say that the average vote for bands reaching the
London Astoria is 85 (... last time we got 76 :) )
The finale will be Sunday 17th July 2004 & 24th July 2005.
The first 5 bands from the finale will then be judged by a panel of
"experts" who will decide which two bands will represent UK at the
Taubertal festival in Germany (11th August till 14th August)....

Be ready guys, we gonna rock.........

The Britisher and younger element of MissesNice is John. This classic-trained pianist joined the band in Sept2003 as The so-wanted Bass player. Since then and a trip to Belgium in March05 (pictures coming, see link bellapix), his French considerably improved and our English enriched in typical slang swearing words ;)
